Weekly Budget is run by one person as a personal project. It has no advertising, no trackers and no third-party services. This page describes everything it does with your data, which is not much.
What is stored
Only what you type into it:
- The budget's name, weekly amount, and which weekday its week starts on.
- Each expense: description, amount, date, and category.
- Category names.
- A budget ID, generated on your device when you create a budget.
- Invitations you create: a random token, which budget it is for, when it was made, and when it was used. No record of who it was sent to, because the app never knows.
That is the whole list. There are no accounts, so there is no email address, no password, no name, and no phone number. Nothing is collected about your device, your location, or your contacts, and nothing is used to build a profile of you.
Usage counts
To see whether the app is working and how much it is being used, the server keeps a daily tally of how many requests it handled, which screens or endpoints they were for, which app they came from (Android, iPhone or the website), and how many failed. These are counts only — one row per day per screen — and they are not tied to you, to a device, or to anything you typed.
It also records which budgets were used on which day, so that "how many budgets are active" can be answered. That is a date and a budget ID and nothing else: no times, no list of what was done.
No third party receives any of this. It is not used for advertising, and there is nothing here that could identify a person.
Who can see it
Anyone who has your budget ID can read and change that budget. That is deliberate — it is how a budget is shared between a phone, a partner's phone, and this website. It also means the ID is the only thing protecting the budget, so treat it like a password and only give it to people you want in your budget.
An invitation link is the safer way to let someone in, and it is safer precisely because it is not the ID: it works once, it stops working after seven days, and you can cancel it before it is used. A link that is forwarded or seen by the wrong person after that is worthless, which is not true of the ID.
Data is not sold, rented, or shared with anyone else. Nobody has access to the server except its operator.
Where it is stored
On a privately operated server in Canada, in a PostgreSQL database. Traffic between your device and the server is encrypted with HTTPS.
Deleting your data
Deleting an expense removes it from every device sharing the budget. Deleted rows are retained on the server for a period so that other devices can learn about the deletion when they next sync.
Unused invitations are deleted once they expire, and used ones are cleared out as soon as another is created for the same budget.
To delete a budget and everything in it, email the address below with the budget ID and it will be removed. Removing a budget from a single device (in the app's settings) leaves the budget itself intact for anyone else using it.
Children
The app is not directed at children and collects nothing that would identify anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
